What is the art of photography?

To me, it's moment capturing, and unsurprisingly, I think most people would be agree. We use cameras to capture a single moment scribbled by light onto our electronic sensors or physical film grain. It's time-stopping science and it's incredible.

But can anyone make art from photography?

Yes, I think so. Although I believe there is some art that is better than others, art is in the eye of the beholder. Photography gives us a raw perspective of what an individual sees and what they want the viewer to see.

Girl in a yellow dress and verdant tree branches and leaves create natural frame against blue sky.

Let's take the cover image for example.

The bright yellow dress separates her from the Nashville greenery.

She's center frame in a wide angle shot that shows us that her movement is free.

There's a shakiness to the image that makes us feel like we are moving in the space with her.

It's tilted so we can feel the raw energy of the movement.

The colors are bright and the lighting is natural.

When viewing this picture, I want you to experience these characteristics in reference to your lived experience. Does it speak to you? Do you gloss over it?

Any and every response to art is okay, as long as it is the truth.

Because art is not only the creator's experience, it's the viewer's.

Both are important, both are valid, and both are true.

What type of photography speaks to you?

That's a loaded question, I know.

So think of it like this: "What moments that have been captured do I want to experience?"

Let me know.
