How do you know when to take the picture?
Honestly, it's intuition. It's watching your subject interact in the environment and snapping the picture when it feels right. And assuming you know how to operate a camera properly: exposure settings, framing, shutter speed, white balance, etc., you just hope it works out.
Why Can't every picture be memorable?
Not every picture can be memorable because not everything should be memorable.
Do you remember what you had for breakfast yesterday? If you don't it wasn't particularly memorable for a variety of reasons.
But if you do, it may have played a significant part of your routine. Maybe you shared it with someone you care about or you were eating it as the morning birds were chirping.
Just like how human memory works, so does taking photos.
As photographers, our job is to curate the best moments by understanding the significance of why we we're there in the first place. And then, we share them with our client.
That's the service that photography is. A curation of the memories worth remembering.
That's why only 10-15% of the photos a photographer takes are the ones that are masterfully edited and shared
So, when is the right time to take the picture?
Sometimes and always. Its paradoxical, but that's the point. What do you see that's visually appealing?
Moments separated by seconds tell vastly different stories.
Trust your instincts and trust that your instincts are interesting.
I promise you, your perspective is interesting
And that's why everyone deserves photos and everyone is capable of taking photos.
